Debra Hughes is the author of Albuquerque In Our Time: 30 Voices, 300 Years. Her short fiction has appeared in the anthologies Tierra: Contemporary Short Fiction of New Mexico and Walking the Twilight: Women Writers of the Southwest and in New Letters, Blue Mesa Review, and in New Mexico Humanities Review. A native of New Mexico, Ms. Hughes writes about the region, its natural world and people. Her work on such topics was awarded an International Regional Magazine Award.  Her writing has appeared in Narrative Magazine, Huffington Post, The Writer’s Harbrace Handbook, New Mexico Magazine, USA Today, Education Week, Dallas Times-Herald, and other publications. Ms. Hughes has taught creative writing and English composition and literature in workshops and university classes. She is a former founding advisory board member of Narrative Magazine and a member of The Author’s Guild. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is currently at work on a novel.
